What’s Up Calamity Cat?

I discovered video games in my 30's and learned that I really enjoyed the challenge. It all began one fateful day when my better half introduced me to Diablo III. That's when I quickly realized that I also had a problem with hoarding virtual loot items, just as badly as I did with everything else in real life.

Diablo III was my first but my true love is a first-person shooter series from Bungie studios called Destiny (cue thematic soundtrack).

Calamity Cat is my gamer tag and, often times, describes my game play–it gets calamitous. Just like all my many passions—whether in crafting or gaming—I do for the love of learning and improving daily (oh, and to collect lots and lots of loot).

professional career

My career spans over two decades and includes a diverse compilation of industry verticals, companies and roles. I started out in radio, hosting live programs for Top 40, hip-hop and electronic dance stations in Austin, Texas.

I’ve traversed the worlds of print publishing, advertising and online marketing. Most recently, I was the Vice President of Marketing and Promotions for a casino gaming technology company. It’s there that I earned a patent for a national slot tournament promotion TournEvent of Champions®. The annual promotion draws hundreds of thousands from around the country with a champion taking home the top prize of $1 million dollars.

After over a decade, multiple tour buses (no kidding!), more than 200 casinos visited, and a corporate rebrand under my belt, I decided to take a much overdue break.
